Damn Nanna Kay
Who was it who said “now that’s another fine mess you’ve gotten us into?” Never mind. It doesn’t matter because it wasn’t him anyway. It was me. I am the creator of my own messes, and though I was only sharing my excitement, jubilation and great find with a friend, once again, it has traveled full circle and has come home to me. Well not physically to me, but me in the sense that my good deed is now possessing my cell phone.
I surf the internet a lot looking for things – things being graphics, quotations, people, locations, purses, shoes, and on occasion something I can use. I had a great idea the other day and went in search of a graphic to illustrate my idea. I quickly lost the original idea but kept moving from one site to another eventually stumbling on a site that kept my interest for more than the normal .3 seconds. I thought the site was so fascinating I sent the link to my friend Nanna Kay who is currently in school studying psychology. I think Nanna Kay and I share some secret sisterhood connection regarding free tests offered on the internet and the bizarre longing to have someone or some machine who knows nothing about us to tell us our deepest personality traits and / or flaws. This site offered a free personality test, so Nanna Kay indulged and took the test. Upon completion of the test the taker is required to enter a cellular phone number so that a the personality test controllers can send you a secret code. The secret code is used to get the secret results of your secret personality test results. Nanna Kay entered her cell number but was told by the test controllers that the number was not in their database of valid numbers. No problem. Nanna Kay entered my cell phone number. I guess it’s that secret sisterhood connection again. Either that or mine was the first number she could think of. She then called me, told me about the secret number thing and asked me to call her and let her know the number as soon as I had it. I got the secret number while on the phone with her.
Later that day Nanna Kay revealed to me the results of the personality test. The test apparently revealed to her things she was not aware of about herself. Things she did not agree with about herself. And a few things she would never admit about herself. She couldn’t argue the results or even question them for more explanation. How can you argue with something offered free on the internet? She took the test results home. She shared them with her family, pondered them for a day or so and then forgot them.
The truth about Nanna Kay was revealed to her on a Friday. She had all weekend to ponder, dispute, disregard and then forget all about the test. On Monday, while I was traveling back from a meeting in a neighboring state my cell phone rang indicating I had a text message. Being the good driver that I am I ignored it until I could stop and read the message. My life is extremely busy and I stay connected with the aid of my cell phone so as soon as possible I checked the message. This is the exact text I received: Don’t ignore the small stuff. One grain of wheat does not fill a granary, but it helps. Huh? I didn’t understand the message. I didn’t know who sent it. I was not happy that I was getting wrong number text messages on my cell phone.
Upon closer inspection of the errant message, I saw that this message was connected to the message I received on Friday with Nanna Kay’s secret personality code. I don’t believe it. She used my number and now I am receiving text messages generated by Nanna Kay’s personality test. Messages for her to think about or act upon. Inspiring words for Nanna Kay. Encouraging words. Motivating words. All for Nanna Kay. All coming to my cell phone. I wonder if I can put the personality test controllers on my Do Not Call List. On second thought, I wonder if I can put Nanna Kay on my Do Not Call List. Tomorrow if I get more motivating words on my cell phone, I’m going to use Nanna Kay’s secret code against the personality controller and show it a personality out of control.
